A Wonderful World Book Day at Shortstown Primary
13.03.2026We had a fantastic time celebrating World Book Day at Shortstown Primary School, with a day full of stories, imagination and shared reading.
Although World Book Day officially took place earlier in the week, we came together on Friday to celebrate with a special dress-up day. Children arrived dressed as characters from The Gruffalo and a range of traditional tales, and it was lovely to see so much creativity and enthusiasm on display.
We were also proud to support FACES, a charity that works closely with our school to support children and families, particularly around emotional wellbeing. Thank you to everyone who contributed.
One of the highlights of the day was welcoming parents and carers into school to read with their children. It was so special to see classrooms filled with families enjoying books together. Where parents weren’t able to attend, our older pupils did a wonderful job of reading with younger children, showing great care and responsibility.
A quote from one of our Year 3 children, today – ‘Guess what I love the most in the world and am never, ever going to give up? Reading. I just love it.’
It was a truly special day that celebrated not just reading, but the joy of sharing stories together as a school community.
